Choosing well
An engagement ring is chosen once and worn for a long time. The decisions that matter most are the stone, the setting and the fit, followed closely by the metal and the budget you are comfortable with.
- The stone: natural diamond, laboratory-grown diamond, moissanite or a coloured gemstone such as sapphire. See The Diamond Guide, Lab-Grown Diamonds and Moissanite.
- The setting: a solitaire, a halo, three stones or a pavé band. Each changes how the ring looks and how it wears.
- The shape: round, oval, cushion, emerald, pear and others. See Diamond Shapes Explained.
- The fit: use our Ring Size Guide.
- The budget: there is no rule that fits everyone. Read How much should you spend?.
Wedding bands
A wedding band is chosen to sit well beside the engagement ring, or to stand alone. Read Engagement ring vs wedding ring and How to choose wedding bands.
Frequently asked questions
Should I choose a natural or a lab-grown diamond?
Both are diamonds. Natural diamonds formed in the earth; laboratory-grown diamonds are grown under controlled conditions. The choice depends on your priorities, including budget and meaning. We explain both honestly.
Is moissanite a good choice for an engagement ring?
Moissanite is very hard and brilliant, with more visible fire than diamond. It is a different material, and we always name it as moissanite.
How do I find a ring size without asking?
Borrow a ring that fits the intended finger and measure its inside diameter, or request a consultation and we will help you estimate discreetly.
Can I design my own engagement ring?
Yes. Our Bespoke service begins with a conversation and you approve the design and price before anything is made.
